Cold, hard cravings
Well, my cravings have finally begun -- at week 26. My cravings aren't for chocolate or pickles or mayonnaise or anything you typically hear about. I crave ice, lots and lots of ice.
One of my co-workers told me this was a sign of low iron. This could be possible with me, since I've been borderline anemic before. I'm not going to add iron supplements to my prenatal vitamin though until I talk to my doctor. I also don't plan on eating any beef liver. I'll see if I can find it in some veggies.
The ice at work is much better than the ice cubes we make at home. For the past week at work I munched and munched through most of the day. (No one has complained at me yet and my boss thinks it's cute, so we'll hope that mindset will stay.) The ice at work is mostly white and full of air so crunching it is really easy.
The ice at home is harder to crunch and not nearly as porous. That might mean it's better ice in general, but for my current purposes it's not nearly as pleasurable.
I have no idea where the craving is coming from because I'm by nature a very cold-natured person. While munching my cold ice at work, I have a blanket in my lap and sometimes am even wearing my coat. I keep waiting for my body temperature to go up, but that hasn't happened yet.
Have any of you craved ice? Or anything else? Let me know!

I love the crushed ice at work! It's most likely yes, a sign of anemia. I am only at week 14. But I can totally relate! You might try eating eggs if you aren't a big meat eater. Veggies aren't a great absorbable source of iron but it can't hurt if you include them.
a friend of mine craved Dial soap! she wouldn't eat it (although she told me she would have if she could) but she would sit in the bathroom and sniff it all the time.
it was hilarious.
With Cade I suddenly became obsessed with sweets. (Although for the first trimester I'd only eat Salt and Vinegar chips). With newbaby, I'm really into sweets again, and am resisting the temptation to buy left-over halloween candy
It's funny you write about the Dial soap. My boss said her sister craved plastic! She would buy swimming floaties, cut them up and suck on the pieces! I do love the smell of soap, but hope my cravings stick to ice.
I craved ice too with my second pregnancy! It is a sign of anemia, although the anemia may not necessarily be severe or even significant. I chuckled when I read your blog, because I remember so well doing the exact same thing. At first I found myself just finishing off the ice left in my glass at the end of a drink - which was odd for me, because as a cold-natured person, I almost never eat ice. As it progressed, I would seek out ice - at work, at home, etc. and sit and cruch for hours. After the baby was born, the craving vanished. Now, with pregnancy #3, it hasn't started yet. So far, I'm only craving sweets - and boy do I CRAVE them! Have fun ice-chomping! (Less calories than sweets!)
