Straight from the heartburn

I have recently made some new discoveries about battling heartburn that I want to share. Most of you know these, or don't get yourself into such situations, but I still want to share what I've learned.

On Sunday, Bob offered me a piece of homemade chocolate cake. It was after 8 p.m., I wasn't hungry, and still I said, "Sure."

I woke up that night with the most intense, awful heartburn.

So, it's a good idea not to eat late at night, especially if you aren't hungry.

But that's not the only lesson I've learned--I read somewhere that people with heartburn should elevate the heads of their beds (does that make sense?). I didn't want to put bricks under our bed, so I'm now sleeping with two big pillows under my head. This isn't uncomfortable at all, and the heartburn is a lot better at night.

So there are my newest lessons in heartburn. I hope they can help some of you. If not, please share your tips.

Nothing I did helped my heartburn except tums! I lived for fruit flavor ones, they were at my side always in the last few months of my pregnancy. The moment I had my daughter, it was gone, AMEN!

And don't EVAH have the combination of pasta, marinara, steak, and THEN chocolate cake. (or ice cream for that matter) Oh, my goodness! Even if you only have like a tablespoon of each. Bad, bad, bad.

Chocolate and coffee are the worst for the heartburn. I like those Smoothie Tums the best in the fruit flavors. Maybe try putting something between your mattress and boxspring to elevate your head instead of using piles of pillows?

Tums and only Tums eliminated heartburn during my first pregnancy, and during this one! I've heard almonds help too, but I hate them. Try elevating the mattress not the entire bed, it does help.

I just read on the site that diary products are one of the main causes of heartburn (particulary on an empty stomach). Good luck, and I feel your belly paid.

That's amazing about the dairy products! When the heartburn is really bad, I usually drink a glass of milk. I certainly won't do that anymore! And I'll try the Tums. I've just been stubborn about that. Thanks for the advice!
