Day 62 - A gift horse

We had an amazing day today. Little Elvis received an amazing handmade gift -- a huge English style rocking horse.

One of our friends, Gene Wacyra, made the beautiful horse from scratch (actually, birch plywood) and it is one of the most beautiful creations I have ever seen.

Sue, his wife, said he was worried that we wouldn't appreciate something handmade. Although it obviously doesn't look handmade, the fact that it was made us appreciate it all the more.

Here's some video of the unveiling:

We are both do-it-yourselfers, and are so touched that Gene shared his amazing talent with our family. And not only did he make this beautiful creature, he and Sue drove all the way from New Jersey to give it to us.

There really aren't words for how shocked we were at receiving the horse. I told my mom after they left that I had no idea how to write a thank you note.

Bob also wrote about our "gift horse."

That is THE most incredible rocking horse I have ever seen. What a wonderful gift!

Just think, Little Elvis will be able to see his children and grandchildren riding it one day.

That is exactly what I thought when I saw it. Gene gave us our first family heirloom. I can't wait until Little Elvis is big enough to ride it. We've been talking about getting him a cowboy hat and vest.
