Day 71 - Sleep envy?

One thing I expected during my pregnancy was that I wouldn't be getting much sleep when Little Elvis was born.

I've actually been surprised at the amount I've been able to get. We have our bad nights, but the good ones outnumber the bad ones.

Before we switched him from the co-sleeper to the bassinet, we were averaging 4-5 hours a night.

I thought that was really good, but it seems like every new baby we meet is sleeping through the night.

For the first few that we met, I just thought that they were really lucky. But it seems like every baby is sleeping through the night, and the moms of older babies cluck at me pityingly when I say 4-5 hours.

Did I miss something? Do all babies sleep through the night as soon as they get home from the hospital?

Maybe the new definition of sleeping through the night has changed.

I don't mind that other babies might sleep longer, but I don't like it when others act like it's bad that he's not sleeping as much. It makes me feel like they think I'm complaining when I'm not. I think 5 hours is great, and I can't wait until he gets back to that time -- we're still getting used to the bassinet.

I'll get off my soapbox now.

Every single MOm I knew after I had Aiden had babies that slept through the night while my son woke up every 2 hours. It used to drive me nuts. Even with Caileigh I would brag about how she was only getting up once or twice a night and people would give me sorry looks. Every baby is so unique and even babies that sleep through the night have trouble during teething etc. I say enjoy Little Elvis for his personal achievements and pity for those poor moms with babies that slept through the night and as teenagers are horrible! LOL

The way I see it, we'll be really appreciative when we make it through our first night.

Lots of people will say things that aren't necessarily true just to make you think they have better/smarter/etc babies too - grain a salt time. LOL
