The need to protect
I'm watching the news about the Virginia Tech shootings right now and can't imagine what those parents are going through.
I remember my mom calling me when I was a freshman in college after seeing something on TV about students at another school. She was crying and I had to swear not to do something. I remember thinking, "What's the big deal? It didn't happen here."
Now I understand exactly why she was so upset.
It's amazing the emotions I've experienced since I first found out I was pregnant -- one of the most prominent of them is my need to protect him.
I can't imagine how these parents and other loved ones must be feeling. The sense of powerlessness must be gut-wrenching. My heart and prayers go out to everyone involved in or touched by this tragedy.

You know how some people say that being a mom is like wearing your heart outside of your body...
...now you get that, right?
me too.
I do. That's a good saying. I do feel like my heart is outside of my body. Today we drove to get a scale and I sat in the back with Little Elvis. We were staring at each other and I started tearing up, just because he is so sweet.
